In practice that comes down to a short list: email that can't be taken over with one stolen password, files that are backed up and encrypted, laptops that lock and wipe if they're lost, and a clear record of who can open what.

We set that up for small firms without turning the office into an IT project. Most of the work happens after hours or remotely, and we document everything so you can answer a client's or an insurer's security questionnaire in an afternoon.

• Email that can't be hijacked. Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace with multi-factor sign-in, phishing filtering, and alerts on suspicious forwarding rules, the trick behind most wire-fraud scams.
• Documents you can always reach. Shared drives or your practice-management system organized by matter, with permissions, version history, and offsite backup.
• Laptops that protect themselves. Disk encryption, automatic updates, screen locks, and remote wipe, so a laptop left in a cab is an inconvenience, not a breach.
• Scanners and printers that behave. Scan-to-folder and scan-to-email that work every time, and printers that don't go offline the morning of a filing.
• A paper trail for security. A written summary of your setup for malpractice carriers, cyber insurance applications, and client questionnaires.
